TP-Link VIGI NVR: Officially ONVIF-Open in Both Directions

TP-Link's FAQ says it directly: VIGI NVRs can add third-party cameras via ONVIF, and VIGI cameras also work with other NVR brands and NAS units. A rare two-way street - useful both for putting non-VIGI cameras onto a VIGI NVR and for running VIGI cameras inside a mixed ONVIF system.

How to add a third-party camera

  1. In the VIGI NVR management interface, open the camera-add flow and select the third-party / ONVIF option (per TP-Link FAQ 5054).
  2. Enable ONVIF on the camera and create an ONVIF account (same failure mode as every other NVR in this table).
  3. Point the NVR at the camera IP with the ONVIF port; verify the stream, then record as usual.
  4. When running VIGI cameras elsewhere, TP-Link's companion FAQ recommends VIGI NVR for the full feature set.
