Swann NVR: Per-Model ONVIF Guides in the Help Center

Swann, the consumer/home brand, documents ONVIF camera connections per recorder model in its help center. As with most consumer brands, Swann's own cameras get full features; third-party ONVIF cameras stream and record but skip the smart-analysis tier. Check the guide for your specific recorder - ONVIF support varies by model.

How to add a third-party camera

  1. Find your recorder model's connection guide in Swann's help center (e.g. NHD series guides).
  2. If the guide lists ONVIF add-in: enable ONVIF on the camera, add it with IP + ONVIF credentials.
  3. No ONVIF option in that model's guide = own-brand cameras only (or RTSP where exposed).

What works vs what breaks on third-party cameras

✓ Works
  • Third-party ONVIF cameras on Swann NVRs (model-dependent, official guides)
  • Swann cameras (full features)
✗ Breaks / not available
  • Swann smart analytics (person/vehicle) on third-party cameras
  • Older Swann recorders without ONVIF import

Common questions

Does Swann support third-party cameras?

Swann publishes per-model connection guides (e.g. NHD series) in its help center. ONVIF import exists on the supported recorders - check your specific model first.

What about Swann cameras on other systems?

Swann cameras are ONVIF-capable on most models; other NVRs/VMS can add them via ONVIF or RTSP.

Policies change with firmware generations — always confirm against the vendor's current documentation before buying hardware for a mixed fleet. Check any camera's ONVIF certification record in our database.
